For the Benefit of Bob

UPDATE JUNE 22 2008

Hi Everyone.

Bob’s surgery was a total success and things went very well!   He is in Guelph and is on the road to recovery. It will probably take 6-8 weeks, then he will start chemo. He is in good spirits and would like to thank everyone for their support.

The May 2 fundraising event was a tremendous success. It exceeded anything we could have hoped for.

An amazing example of what Guelph and the artist/musician community can achieve.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO CAME, BROUGHT SNACKS AND VOLUNTEERED.

Feel the love...

This site is for the benefit of Robert Howson, artist, musician, father and friend, it is posted and maintained by his friends.

Recently Bob was diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

Bob has chosen to make his living through his passion, his art. For many artists this is a difficult choice to make since we know there are no regular paychecks, no sick days and no benefit packages.

Bob is extremely talented and resourceful. One way he makes his living is through maintaining a stall for the past 14 years at the St. Jacobs market, where he connects with potential clients twice a week. He also has a web site where he showcases his equine art and his portrait art http://www.portrait-art.ca and he creates and sells his intensley beautiful abstractions.

For years Bob and many other artists have donated their artwork to various charities and organizations, just receiving a polite thank you for your donation letter in return. To all the art patrons that have enjoyed purchasing art at your local charity fundraiser, we ask you to donate to our friend Bob's cause.

Numb hands is every artist's, craftsman and musician's nightmare.

This could very well be one of the side effects of Bob's treatment, and it could last 6-18 months. Bob's cancer is stage 3. Update: Bob has finished this round of chemo and radiation and will be recovering for the next 4-5 weeks, then have surgery, followed by another 6-8 weeks of recovery. He then faces another 4 months of chemotherapy.

We want to raise enough money see Bob through the next year. Our goal is $25,000. Still below the poverty level but enough for Bob and his son Jaden to get by on.

How can you help?

There have been a few extremely successful fundraisers, Wyndham Art Supplies is currently holding a silent auction of paintings, we are selling Bob's paintings and we have a link to his Paypal account located on the Make a Donation page. We have opened an "In Trust" account with the Toronto Dominion Bank downtown Guelph, more info on the make a donation page.

Anyway that you can help will be greatly appreciated.
