Robert Howson was born and raised in Sarnia, Ont. He attended the Art Fundamentals Program at Lambton College and went on to study visual arts at the University of Windsor until 1989. A couple of years later he moved to Guelph, Ontario, where he has lived ever since. To help pay for his college and university Bob use to sing folk songs in local bars. If you’re lucky you may still hear him sing some jazz like Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin for local fundraisers. Now he shares a studio space in Guelph, with print-makers, painters and a stained glass artist. His love for the arts and music is apparent in his every day activities. His portfolio is extensive, diverse and encompasses both personal and corporate commissions. His main income comes from his detailed graphite portraits of both people and horses. He has displayed these at the St. Jacobs market since 1994. To see some of this work visit his website at http://www.portrait-art.ca . Since 1991 Bob has embedded himself in Guelph’s rich arts community, painting abstracts, making collages and creating installation work. To see some of his work visit Bob's Art at this site. In 2003 he had an exhibition at the Macdonald Stewart Art Gallery called “Targets: the New Pretty” a highly successful installation playing on the themes of targets and home decor. He has painted sets for the Guelph Little Theatre, been a member of both the Arts Festival and Studio Tour and is the artist responsible for the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame portraits now hanging in the Sports Complex in downtown Guelph. |
